Whales and dolphins caught up in Great Pacific Garbage Patch for first time, research finds
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the largest accumulation of ocean plastic in the world. The results of the Ocean Cleanup's Aerial Expedition in this area have recently been published.
The research found the first direct evidence of dolphins and whales with their young calves in the heart of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Unfortunately, marine animals often mistake plastics for food and can become trapped in nets floating in the ocean.

Tel Aviv Bans Plastic Disposables From All Schools
After dozens of parents and children demonstrated in front of City Hall, Tel Aviv's local government announced that all disposable plates, cups, and cutlery will be removed from the city's schools by the end of 2019.
The schools and preschools in Tel Aviv use around 100,000 disposable utensils every day so this announcement is a great step in the right direction.
Three times more people at risk from yearly coastal flooding than previously thought – new research
Sea-level rise has always been seen as a very real threat but according to new research, there are millions more people who are already at risk. Over 70% of these people are in Asia and it is clear that defences, such as seawalls, are going to be vital in helping to protect these coastal communities.
